Fr. J.B.'s genius for music was manifested when he organised and conducted the 600-strong choir for the 38th International Eucharistic Congress Choir held in Mumbai in 1964, which won much acclaim. The Newman Choir emerged from this choir, under his able direction to take classical and traditional sacred music to the public.
The choir is known as the Newman Choir for two reasons:
Since then, the choir has given many concerts on the public stage, in churches, on radio and TV, from its inception until 1988 when it was temporarily disbanded. There were many music cassettes also produced during this period.
